The Seattle Seahawks defeated the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday, snapping the Kansas City squad's undefeated start to the 2026 season.
First, the Seahawks' defensive unit successfully neutralized the Chiefs' primary offensive weapon. Kenneth Walker III, who entered the game leading the league with 665 rushing yards, finished with just 36 yards on 14 carries. The Seattle defense deployed two deep safeties for much of the contest and never allowed Walker to gain more than 10 yards on a single run.
Second, the receiving corps for Kansas City produced limited numbers. With Rashee Rice out due to a hamstring strain and Tyquan Thornton on injured reserve, the remaining group of Xavier Worthy, Cyrus Allen, Justin Watson, Andrew Armstrong, and Jalen Royals combined for only six receptions and 39 yards. General Manager Brett Veach faces pressure to acquire additional wide receiver depth before the November 10 trade deadline.
Third, Jaxon Smith-Njigba recorded 129 receiving yards in the first half, setting a career high and becoming the first Seahawk to reach that mark in a single half since Tyler Lockett in 2020. Smith-Njigba now leads the NFL with 867 receiving yards and eight receiving touchdowns. He is the first player in the Super Bowl era to accumulate at least 850 yards and eight touchdowns in the first seven games of a season.
Patrick Mahomes finished the game with 165 passing yards and a season-low six fantasy points. He has topped 250 passing yards in only one of his last four games and has not thrown a touchdown in the previous two matchups. The Chiefs' next opponent will be the Denver Broncos on Sunday at 4:25 p.m. ET.
Sam Darnold completed 20 of 28 passes for 257 yards and one touchdown for the Seahawks. He was intercepted once in the final seconds of the first half, marking his eighth interception over the past five games. The Seahawks will host the Chicago Bears on November 2 at 8:15 p.m. ET.
