Misiorowski Tops 2026 Pitcher Class as Early-Round Value Slides
Jacob Misiorowski posted the best season among starters, while the group of top 24 drafted arms generated less value than any year since 2021.

Fantasy baseball analysts have long tracked the financial gap between elite pitchers and the rest of the rotation, but the 2026 season widened that divide to a record level. A review by CBS Sports indicates that the most expensive starting pitchers delivered their lowest combined value in five years.
Jacob Misiorowski of the Milwaukee Brewers emerged as the clear leader of the 2026 class. The right-hander recorded a 1.80 ERA and a 0.80 WHIP over 174.1 innings, striking out 252 batters. His 37.9% strikeout rate and WHIP were the second best in major league history when excluding the shortened 2020 season. The analyst who conducted the review labeled him the best pitcher in baseball and recommended drafting him ahead of any other arm in 2027.
The collective performance of the top 24 starters by draft position fell short of historical benchmarks. Those players generated $227 in total value, down from the five-year average of at least $259.1 recorded between 2021 and 2025. Only eight of the top 24 draft picks finished the year ranked inside the top 24 in performance metrics. Meanwhile, pitchers ranked 25th through 36th produced $155.6 in value, a figure that nearly matched the output of the top 12 group, which earned $158.94.
Several factors contributed to the surge in mid-tier value and the slump at the top. Cam Schlittler of the Yankees posted a 1.95 ERA and 239 strikeouts, securing a likely American League Cy Young Award. Chase Burns, Sonny Gray, and Zack Wheeler also contributed strong numbers. However, the class included several busts, such as Spencer Strider and Emmett Sheehan, and underutilized assets like Tyler Glasnow and Brandon Woodruff who did not pitch enough innings to justify their draft positions.
Garrett Crochet of the Boston Red Sox represented the most notable decline. His season deteriorated after six starts, though the review argued his early-round ranking remained defensible based on his potential. Paul Skenes of the Pittsburgh Pirates received an honorable mention for mixed results. He finished with a 3.82 ERA and 200 strikeouts, but his performance faded in the final four and a half months, with his strikeout rate dropping to 22% in August and September.
Looking ahead to the 2027 season, the analyst identified Drew Rasmussen of the Tampa Bay Rays and Jesús Luzardo of the Philadelphia Phillies as key risers. Rasmussen handled a career-high workload, while Luzardo translated 2025 projections into actual success. Zack Wheeler also moved up the list after returning from thoracic outlet surgery, closing the 2026 season with a 1.67 ERA over his final six starts. The group of decliners includes Skenes, Crochet, Blake Snell, Kyle Bradish, and George Kirby. Bradish recorded a 4.12 ERA before a hernia ended his season early.
The 2026 pool also featured many talented but unproven arms, including Nolan McLean, Eury Perez, Trey Yesavage, and Bubba Chandler. For the upcoming draft, the best options may be Jared Jones and Walbert Ureña, who possess longer track records than the previous year's breakout group. Kade Anderson made little impact in a brief debut, while uncertain roles for Didier Fuentes and Grant Taylor should keep their prices reasonable in early rounds.
