Stow police and Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation agents are treating the death of 36-year-old Larretta Ann Allison as a domestic homicide after she was found fatally shot inside her residence. No suspects have been arrested in the case. The investigation began Wednesday evening when officers responded to a house in the 4100 block of Vira Road around 5:20 p.m. to assist a landlord with a tenant issue. Upon entering the home, officers discovered Allison's body. The Summit County Medical Examiner confirmed she suffered multiple gunshot wounds and determined she had been dead for some time before the police arrival.
The discovery occurred following a family-initiated welfare check. Relatives stated they grew concerned after several days without contact, noting that Allison typically spoke with a family member every day. A relative traveled to the home to conduct the check at the same time police responded to the scene. Allison leaves behind two children, for whom family members are now focusing their support efforts.
A gathering of friends and relatives took place on Thursday to honor Allison, whom family affectionately called Rett. The group surrounded themselves with music, candlelight, and photos before releasing purple and black balloons into the air. Adrian Mims, Allison's aunt, described the deceased as sweet and silly, noting her deep love for her children and extended family. Mims said the family misses her deeply.
Carolyn Mims-Nelson, another aunt, emphasized the importance of supporting the children left behind. She stated that Allison was the life of any party and that the family will now step in to support the kids, calling them the most important priority. Mims-Nelson also used the gathering to issue a warning about domestic violence. She noted that while the issue is frequently seen on television, families often do not expect it to happen to their own relatives. Mims-Nelson urged individuals facing domestic violence to seek help, stating it is not a joke and requires proper handling.
Loved ones expressed a desire for Allison's death to serve as a cautionary tale regarding domestic violence. They described the balloon release as a way to send their love to Allison but stated they will not rest until accountability is established. The family is asking anyone with information to come forward. A GoFundMe account has been established to assist the family.
Anyone with information regarding the case is asked to contact the Stow Police Department Detective Bureau at (330) 689-5770.
