One loaded firearm was found at the foot of a bed in a Chicago studio apartment on October 27. Cook County sheriff's deputies discovered the weapon while enforcing a court-ordered eviction at a unit in the 6200 block of South Dorchester Avenue. The occupant, Marecko Green, 42, was lying in bed when they arrived.
The Sheriff's Police Evictions Unit reached the scene at approximately 10:30 a.m. to carry out the eviction order. Green, who was named in the legal papers, was present in the apartment. Officers determined he did not hold a valid Firearm Owner's Identification card. They also confirmed the gun had been reported stolen in Chicago.
Green was taken into custody following the discovery. Police records show a history of arrests and citations for Green dating back to 2016. These past encounters with the law included charges for domestic battery, assault, battery, and driving under the influence. His most recent infraction occurred on October 21, just six days before this arrest. On that date, he was cited for driving on a revoked license.
The Sheriff's Police Gun Investigations Team conducted a further review of the incident. The Cook County State's Attorney's Office approved a felony charge based on that review. Green was charged with possession of a firearm by a repeat felony offender. He appeared in court on October 28 and was ordered into the custody of Cook County Jail.
The incident highlights the intersection of property enforcement and criminal law in the city. The Cook County Sheriff's Office and the Chicago Police Department provided the details of the arrest and the weapon's status. The felony charge remains active as the legal process continues.
