Huron Township officials requested public assistance on Monday to locate Kimberly McGrath, a 43-year-old Southgate resident who has been missing since Oct. 9. Her vehicle was discovered three days after she was last seen, crashed in the backyard of a residence in western Wayne County. The individual who drove the car into the property has not been identified or found.
The vehicle was located in the 18000 block of Hannan Road on Oct. 12. The homeowner reported the crash to police after noticing the car but was unable to locate the driver. Huron Township Public Safety confirmed on Monday that McGrath has not yet been found. The department expressed hope that she will be reunited with her family.
Search operations involve the Huron Township Police, the Lapeer County Search and Rescue Team, and drive teams from surrounding counties. The Huron Clinton Metro Parks organization is also participating in the effort. Investigators have conducted aerial searches using drones and deployed K9 units to the area. Ground teams continue to canvass the vicinity where the vehicle was found, operating on the theory that McGrath may be nearby.
Police noted that McGrath might be afraid to contact authorities due to fear of being in trouble. A detective from the Huron Township Department of Public Safety stated that the Detective Bureau has dedicated all available time to determining her location. The official said the team is working to provide closure to McGrath's extensive circle of family and friends.
The department cited previous reporting and its own records as sources for the timeline. McGrath was last seen with her family on Oct. 9. Her disappearance has lasted two and a half weeks. The search remains focused on the area surrounding the Hannan Road property where her vehicle came to rest.
Residents with information about McGrath's whereabouts are asked to contact the Huron Township Police at 734-753-4400 or call the emergency dispatch line. Officials are monitoring the case closely as the search continues into the third week.
The search team includes personnel from multiple counties and specialized search units. The homeowner who found the car has been in contact with investigators. Police have not ruled out any theories regarding the crash or the driver's identity. The case remains active under the jurisdiction of the Huron Township Department of Public Safety.
