Democratic incumbent Rep. Greg Landsman defeated Republican challenger Eric Conroy in Ohio’s 1st congressional district, according to Associated Press projections released on Tuesday. The result extends Landsman’s tenure in Congress, marking his third term in the seat.
Landsman first claimed the district in 2022 by unseating longtime Republican Steve Chabot. He subsequently defeated Orlando Sonza to retain the seat in the following cycle. The district, reconfigured by recent redistricting, covers portions of Hamilton, Warren, and Clinton counties in the Cincinnati area.
Before entering Congress, Landsman worked as a public school teacher and served as director of faith-based and community initiatives for Gov. Ted Strickland. He later managed the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center and held the executive director role at StrivePartnership. He also served five years on the Cincinnati City Council.
The campaign centered on fiscal policy and infrastructure. Landsman’s team stated the office secured tens of millions of dollars for Southwest Ohio projects. Key campaign issues included lowering costs for families, increasing public school funding, and gun reform. Voters also weighed in on data centers, which became a focal point of the debate.
Landsman argued that the federal government must establish a national framework to regulate data centers. He proposed rules ensuring companies pay their own way and operate with transparency. The race drew attention as a test case for economic policy in a competitive suburban district.
