A 3-0 defeat to Bournemouth on Sunday marked Manchester United’s worst start to a league season in 40 years. The result extended a poor run that has cast doubt on the club's entire leadership structure, from the boardroom to the pitch.

Supporters at Old Trafford broke with tradition by chanting manager Michael Carrick off the team and booing the players. This reaction signaled a loss of patience that extends beyond the coaching staff to the owners and senior management.

The club has struggled to find a consistent goalscorer since Cristiano Ronaldo departed in November 2022. Rasmus Hojlund was sold back to Italy after failing to meet expectations, and summer signing Benjamin Sesko has missed key time with injuries. Currently, Bryan Mbeumo leads the squad with four goals, a total that places him behind eight other Premier League players.

Bruno Fernandes, the club's record assist provider, found himself in the false nine role. The position limited his ability to drive at goal, a shift that critics argue undermined his primary strength. Fernandes recently criticized Carrick's tactical decisions after a loss to Como in the Champions League, sparking debate over his future at the club.

Ownership issues remain central to the crisis. The Glazer family, who bought into the club in 2005, face ongoing criticism despite the recent financial injection from Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s INEOS Group. CEO Omar Berrada and technical director Jason Wilcox are under fire for recruitment choices, with defender Lisandro Martinez publicly questioning the lack of summer investment.

Transfers this summer missed several targets. The club failed to sign a left-back despite interest in Lewis Hall, a gap that contributed to internal frustration. The squad also lacks a clear identity, with past managers facing revolts over styles that deviated from the club’s historical attacking philosophy.

Gary Neville told Sky Sports that some squad members display unprofessional behavior. With the team sitting near the bottom of the league table, the pressure is mounting for a tactical and structural reset before the next transfer window.
