Gary Neville has called on the Glazer family to sell their majority stake in Manchester United, asserting that the club needs a full change of ownership. The former captain made the remarks while addressing the club's current managerial stability, arguing that the hierarchy has hesitated to dismiss interim boss Michael Carrick.

Carrick remains in charge after United suffered a 3-0 home defeat to Bournemouth on Sunday. The loss extended the team's winless streak to eight matches across all competitions. United currently sit just one point above the Premier League relegation zone. The squad has secured only two victories in their first 12 games of the season.

The team has collected seven points from its first eight league fixtures. This marks United's weakest start to a league campaign in four decades. Carrick, a 45-year-old former midfielder for the club and England, is scheduled to hold a pre-match press conference on Thursday. He will prepare the squad for Saturday's away match against Chelsea.

Neville suggested on the Stick to Football podcast that United's leadership debated Carrick's fate for 24 hours following the Bournemouth match. He believes the owners settled on keeping him due to a lack of planning and limited available options. "I think staying with him is a result of the lack of planning, the lack of probably available options," Neville said. "That's when you're really struggling."

The former teammate of Carrick noted that managers sometimes require dismissal for their own benefit. He cited his own experience at Valencia, stating, "I was happy that they put me out of my misery." Candidates such as Eddie Howe and Julian Nagelsmann have been linked with the managerial vacancy, but no appointment has been finalized.

Carrick received a two-year contract in May after guiding United to third place in the Premier League under Ruben Amorim. The current decline follows a period where the club last won the league title 13 years ago. Fans at Old Trafford offered Carrick warm applause as he left the pitch, while directing boos toward the players.

Neville identified the Glazer family, who acquired the club in 2005, as the source of the team's long-term issues. He pointed to the club's 1.2 billion pounds of debt as a factor limiting its capabilities. The family remains majority owners after selling a minority stake to Jim Ratcliffe in 2024. Neville described the reliance on Ratcliffe for football operations as ridiculous and demanded the Glazers sell the entire club.

"Enough is enough, they have to sell the whole club," Neville said. "The fans have had enough. They have to go now."
