The city of Rochelle has set a deadline of December 14 for the approval of its 2027 municipal budget. Mayor John Bearrows stated that city staff and the City Council are currently engaged in the development process. He described the task as a necessary period of thoughtful discussion and planning. The officials are weighing the specific needs and priorities of the community for the upcoming fiscal year.

Residents can dispose of their electronic waste on November 7. The electronics recycling day will run from 8 a.m. to noon at the street department. The facility is located at 251 E. First Ave. The city restricted participation to Rochelle residents. A list of accepted items is available on the city website and Facebook page.

A temporary closure on Steam Plant Road at the railroad tracks allowed crews to complete repairs. Bearrows thanked residents for their patience during the inconvenience. He noted that maintaining roads and infrastructure is a key part of keeping the city moving safely. The closure was necessary to address much-needed repairs to the crossing.

The annual leaf vacuum program started on October 19 and will continue through November. The mayor asked residents to keep leaves and grass clippings in the parkway. He advised against placing debris in the street gutter. Bearrows cited two reasons for the request. Leaves and grass create slippery conditions for bicyclists and motorcyclists. Debris in gutters can block storm sewer inlets and cause drainage problems during heavy rain.

The community gathered on October 17 for the CAN Food Truck Event. The event took place just south of the Flagg Township Museum. Residents participated in the food offerings and supported the Community Action Network. Bearrows encouraged people to sign up for the CAN shopping spree. He called the experience a heartwarming event for him and his wife.

Several Halloween activities took place in the city on October 31. The Safe House and the DRA hosted trick-or-treat events. The city also held its traditional celebration. Bearrows thanked organizations, volunteers, businesses, and residents for helping make the season safe and enjoyable.

The holiday season begins with the Light Up Lincoln event on December 4. The downtown merchants and community will gather for a holiday parade. The Christmas tree at City Hall will be lit, and the Rochelle Gratitude Award will be presented. Treats and hot chocolate will be served at City Hall. Downtown businesses will offer special items, and Santa will appear for family photos.

Flight Deck will host its Deck the Hall event on December 6. Santa will be available for photos between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. The photos carry no charge. Various vendors will also be present at the annual gathering.
