For professionals and small business owners in the Great Lakes and Ohio Valley regions, the way daily administrative burdens are managed may soon change. Anthropic has introduced Claude Duet, a new application designed to handle complex workflows rather than simple personal requests. Unlike the wave of consumer-facing assistants that have flooded the market, this tool is specifically engineered to automate and manage professional tasks, signaling a distinct approach to how artificial intelligence integrates into work environments.
The launch of Duet occurs amid a rapid expansion of AI agents capable of acting on behalf of users. The product is built upon the Claude Opus 5.5 model, which provides the computational foundation for its operations. Anthropic has integrated Duet with more than 6,000 connectors and plug-ins available through the Claude Marketplace. This extensive connectivity allows the software to interact with a wide range of existing business tools and data sources, enabling it to construct dashboards and generate daily briefings based on user-specific information.
The company has drawn a clear line between Duet and other personal agents in the market, such as Instinct, Meta Muse, OpenAI Dots, Hark, Grok Bot, and Fo. Anthropic notes that Duet is not optimized for handling personal errands or booking tickets. Furthermore, it does not display its browser usage in real-time to the user. Instead, the system operates in the background using a dedicated virtual machine. It completes tasks independently and only interrupts the user when specific approval is required, allowing professionals to focus on other priorities while the agent works.
Financial transactions represent a key area of functionality for the new tool. Duet is capable of making online purchases on behalf of users through integrations with Stripe’s Link digital wallet and Shopify’s Shop Pay. However, the system maintains strict boundaries regarding financial power. It will not trade securities or transfer funds between different accounts. To ensure security during sensitive steps like payments, the agent requires explicit user approval before proceeding, balancing automation with human oversight.
Security and data privacy have been central to the development of Duet. Anthropic has released a new classifier that scrutinizes every message to prevent the leakage of sensitive information. By default, the system is programmed to reject requests that ask for credit card numbers or government identification documents. This layer of protection addresses common concerns about data exposure in enterprise and small business environments, where confidential information is frequently processed.
The competitive landscape for AI assistants is intensifying, with many rivals shifting their focus toward business use cases. While Meta’s Muse remains primarily a personal assistant, the company has also released a version tailored for small businesses with specific app connections. Similarly, OpenAI’s Dots has adopted a business-oriented approach by integrating with professional tools. Anthropic’s entry into this space with Duet adds another major player to the conversation, emphasizing proactive recommendations and background task management as key differentiators.
Currently, Claude Duet is available in a research preview for Pro and Max customers. Users can access the tool via the Claude.ai web platform or as a dedicated application for iOS and Android devices. Access to the new agent is controlled through a waitlist, requiring interested parties to sign up before they can begin utilizing its features. This phased rollout allows Anthropic to gather feedback and refine the agent's performance in real-world professional settings.
The introduction of Duet highlights a broader trend in the technology sector: the evolution from passive AI assistants to active agents that execute work. By targeting professionals and small businesses, Anthropic is positioning its product to address the specific needs of organizations looking to streamline operations. As the market continues to differentiate between personal and professional AI tools, the success of Duet may depend on its ability to reliably manage background tasks while maintaining the trust of users who entrust it with their data and financial actions.
