A United Airlines aircraft carrying 150 people made an unplanned return to Las Vegas on Saturday night, landing less than one hour after departure. The turnaround occurred after crew members reported a passenger disturbance during a scheduled red-eye service to Newark, New Jersey.
Las Vegas police detained a 25-year-old male passenger following the incident. The department booked him on charges of making a threat or providing false information regarding an act of terrorism. Officials did not specify the exact words used or actions taken by the suspect. An attorney representing the man did not respond to initial requests for comment. He is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday.
United Airlines confirmed the jet returned to the airport to address a potential security concern. The carrier noted that all passengers arrived safely. The flight was held on the ground overnight and resumed its journey to Newark the following morning.
The Federal Aviation Administration stated it will investigate the event. In an email sent to The Associated Press, the agency cited data showing more than 1,400 unruly passenger incidents have occurred so far in 2026. Flightradar24 data corroborated the short turnaround time recorded for the specific flight number involved in the incident.
