Kerrigan Hagi, an imaging assistant at Morris Hospital, received the October Fire Starter of the Month award. The recognition is based on five nominations submitted by her colleagues in the Imaging Services department.

The award acknowledges employees who demonstrate exceptional service and dedication. Hagi was selected for her consistent support of patients and her colleagues during their daily operations at the hospital.

Jeff Thompson, manager of Imaging Services at Morris Hospital, stated that Hagi shows a deep commitment to the facility, its patients, and her team. He noted that her readiness to assist others helps create a positive environment within the department.

"Kerrigan has so many great qualities that make her deserving of being named Fire Starter," Thompson said. "She is always going out of her way to help others and is always willing to stay over or pick up shifts if we are short-staffed. She always makes sure that everyone in the department feels appreciated and valued, so it is wonderful that we get to celebrate and share our appreciation with her."

Hagi works in a role that involves transporting patients to various tests and procedures. Coworkers describe her as selfless and highly cooperative. They noted that she frequently arrives early to work, stays late, and accepts additional duties when the department is short on staff.

Chanda Kinney, a Morris Hospital imaging assistant, nominated Hagi for the award. Kinney wrote that Hagi prioritizes service excellence by focusing on patient needs and supporting her team. Kinney added that Hagi consistently goes beyond standard duties to provide high-quality care.

Emma Byers, a CT technologist, also contributed to the nomination. Byers said Hagi genuinely cares about the hospital and makes a major difference through her driven demeanor. Byers stated that the team is grateful for Hagi's help.

Hagi developed an interest in healthcare during high school when she job-shadowed professionals at a local hospital. The experience exposed her to the many roles involved in patient care. Her career path became more personal when her grandfather fell ill, and she observed how hospital staff supported both patients and their families.

"I enjoy interacting with the patients and making them feel as comfortable as possible," Hagi said. She aims to reduce stress for patients who may find hospital visits unfamiliar or difficult. She focuses on making light conversation and ensuring patients feel heard and valued during their time in the Imaging department.

Morris Hospital & Healthcare Centers employs more than 1,600 people, making it the largest employer in Grundy County. The Fire Starter program draws from ancient traditions where individuals kept flames alive. The hospital uses the term to honor staff who sustain the positive culture of the organization.
