Chicagoans can expect temperatures to fall to the mid-40s by early evening as a cold front sweeps through the city. This drop in temperature follows weeks of unseasonable warmth and coincides with the kickoff of a Bears game at Soldier Field.
The weather pattern is shifting as drier air moves into the region. Local meteorologist Miller noted that temperatures will settle into the 50s and remain there through Thursday. This change marks the end of a recent stretch where highs hovered around 65 degrees on Wednesday.
Precipitation risks linger through the middle of the week. A storm system lifted north and east earlier in the day, but a blocking pattern slowed its movement. This delay caused occasional drizzle and light showers throughout the day. More widespread activity approached the city on Tuesday evening, with thunder rumbles possible to the south and west.
Friday brings colder air over Lake Michigan. Lake-effect rain showers may impact northwest Indiana, while the Illinois side of the lake sees less activity. The system clears by Saturday, bringing sunshine to the area. Rain that was previously possible for Sunday is no longer expected.
The shift in weather affects daily planning for residents. The front brings breezy conditions as temperatures dip below seasonal averages. The change in temperature is expected to persist through the weekend, offering a break from the recent heat.
