President Donald Trump will watch the results of Tuesday’s midterm elections from the East Room of the White House. The event is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. local time, which is midnight GMT. This timing coincides with the closing of polling places across much of the East Coast. The gathering will serve as a private briefing for the president and his inner circle.
The White House has confirmed that senior officials are already on the premises. The group includes Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Secretary of Homeland Security Markwayne Mullin. Their presence underscores the administration’s focus on retaining the current Republican majority in Congress. The outcome of this election will act as a direct measure of public opinion regarding the president’s management of the country.
Trump has not planned a formal press conference to react to the results this evening. Instead, he has directed his attention to social media throughout the day. He posted numerous messages on Truth Social to encourage voters to support Republican candidates in various states. His activity on the platform has been consistent since the day began.
In one post on Truth Social, Trump stated he was watching pre-election results on Fox News. He also expressed dissatisfaction with one of the network’s commentators, Jessica Tarlov. This comment appeared alongside his update on the coverage he is receiving in real time.
The president enters this election night after an intensive final week of campaigning. He is 80 years old and participated in seven rallies over the past six days. Reports estimate he traveled approximately 8,500 miles during that period. These figures are comparable to the logistics of a presidential campaign rather than a midterm contest.
Trump asked voters to cast their ballots as if his name were on the ballot. This strategy aimed to heighten the stakes for a routine midterm cycle. He will now observe the final counts from the same room where he declared victory in 2020. That earlier event ended with a recount request and allegations of fraud before Joe Biden was certified as the winner.
The administration expects the night to be decisive. The closure of polls on the East Coast will provide the first substantial data on the shift in congressional power. Trump will remain in the East Room as the tallies come in from the remaining states.
